The harvest moon, also known as the full moon, is the biggest and brightest moon in the year. It’s usually observed nearest the autumnal equinox, coinciding with the harvest season in the Northern Hemisphere. That’s why it’s usually called the harvest moon in the US.
The harvest moon gives rise to several traditional celebrations and festivals around the world. In the US, especially in the state of Utah, people usually celebrate the events with plenty of family-friendly activities, community organizations and enjoy a good time with their loved ones.
In some other parts of the world like Asia, the harvest moon has been given special importance. In Chinese and Vietnam, the Harvest Moon Celebration is called the Mid-Autumn Festival and is celebrated with joyful games and the tradition of eating “Mooncakes.”

The 19th Annual Harvest Moon Celebration takes place on the Historic 25th Street in Ogden, Utah. It usually occurs in the middle of Fall. This year, the celebration kicks off on Saturday, September 19, starting from noon to 8 pm.

This year, the celebration will come back bigger than ever, featuring plenty of fun activities for both adults and children.
Family-friendly Outstanding Events
The Harvest Moon Celebration offers a long list of amusing events which kick off at the beginning of the celebration. Those include Locally Twisted balloon artists, local Magician Elias “Lefty” Caress, a climbing course wall, Ogden’s George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park’s plaster fossil casting, wooden moon phases art project, Hand Drawn Photo Booth, Dartside’s activity course, Create Your Own Pumpkin activity with Eccles Art Center, and much more.
This year, the celebration provides a brand new event for visitors. It is taking pictures with a Giant Pumpkin that weighs an estimated 250 pounds. It is grown by Jim Seamons and carved by Adam Smith. There is also a display of huge tractors from Great Basin Antique Tractors.
Moreover, the Harvest Moon Axe Throwing Competition will come back this year and offer free axe throwing for all the over 12-year-old attendants. Besides, the classic giant rock wall will offer free climbing from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Amazing Live Music
It will not be a celebration without live music. At the Harvest Moon Celebration, the main stage will be located on the north side of Lincoln Avenue Intersection and the Historic 25th Street. The performances will be active throughout the day and offer a ton of cultural demonstrations and live music performances.
The lineup this year is diverse, including Branson Anderson, Local singer and songwriter, Fuzion, Ogden Buddhist Taiko Drummers, Ballet Folklorico Tutulli, Caleb & Canvas, Congolese Drummers, and Headliner – TBA.
There is also a community stage located near WiseGuys Comedy Club which introduces young local talent by Imagine Music, so make sure you will not miss out on it.
A Delicious Treat By Local Vendors And Restaurants
The Harvest Moon Celebration is truly a paradise for foodies. Coming to the celebration, you will have an opportunity to try different cuisine in local restaurants and vendors like Tona Sushi, Warrens Craft Burger, Rova, li’s Ristorante Italiano, Lucky Slice Pizza, Roosters, Smokey’s BBQ, Thai Curry Kitchen, Wasatch Roasting Company, Wimpy & Fritz, Ivan’s Ice Cream, Daily Rise Coffee, Menchies, World’s Best Corn Dogs, Soul Pinoy Utah’s Own Pink Drink, Hearth on 25th, Z’s Hot Sauce, and much more.
For guests over 21, the beverage stations will serve you beer and wine during the celebration.
